National
Cathedral School (NCS) is an independent Episcopal college preparatory school
for girls grades 4-12, located on the grounds of the Washington National
Cathedral in Washington, DC. Founded in 1900, the school is dedicated to
offering young women the opportunity to grow and learn in a spiritual community
that honors people of all faiths, nurtures each community member, and values
service to others. Diversity is a significant priority of the school,
with 39% of the population composed of students of color. NCS provides a
stimulating academic life for its students, encouraging intellectual curiosity
and artistic, athletic and personal growth.
In
2016 NCS completed the $56m Educating Women for the World Campaign, having
raised $25m in a Centennial Campaign that concluded in 2003. These campaigns
transformed the physical infrastructure of the school. The school’s endowment
is now valued at $29m and is the current fundraising priority. There is much
potential for philanthropic support to endow existing programs and exciting
initiatives identified in the developing 2018-2023 Strategic Plan. In recent
constituent surveys the overwhelming majority of alumnae cited their NCS
experience as transformational, and a similar proportion of parents recognized
NCS for its excellent teaching.
