Established in 1953, the J. Paul Getty Trust is the world’s largest cultural and philanthropic institution dedicated to the visual arts. The Trust, which has hosted more than 20 million visitors in the last two decades, is composed of four programs: Getty Conservation Institute, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Getty Research Institute, and the Getty Foundation. In addition to promoting visual arts through extensive cultural heritage conservation work, a world-renowned museum, and the 44 miles of shelves in the research library, the Trust has awarded nearly 7,000 grants to individuals and institutions in 180 countries, representing all seven continents.
