A local and national treasure, Thompson Island is located in the heart of the Boston Harbor Islands National and State Park. Since 1833, the Island has been a beacon for experiential education, empowering young people through hands-on learning and skill-building, and outdoor adventure and exploration.
A jewel of wilderness in the heart of the Boston Harbor, Thompson Island is a sanctuary where children can step away from city life to learn and grow in new and profound ways. The Island’s core educational programs for Boston public middle school students combines field science, social-emotional learning, and outdoor challenges — all infused with Outward Bound’s unique approach to promoting compassion, leadership, and service. Funded by philanthropy, private events, and fee-for-service offerings, their public school programs are offered at no cost to families.
