Founded in 1999, UTEC was born from an inspiring movement led by young people seeking to create a safe space amid gang violence in Lowell, Massachusetts. Since its origins as a teen center, UTEC has evolved to serve Lowell, Lawrence, and Haverhill with programs that empower young people to overcome challenges and achieve social and economic success.
Recognized as a national model in working with justice-involved youth, UTEC is known for its focus on employment, education, and prevention of gang involvement. Through innovative programs, UTEC’s model emphasizes workforce development, education, and mental health support, with a unique component in social enterprises that both empower youth and support community needs.
