Founded during the 1960s “War on Poverty,” the National Consumer Law Center (NCLC) has a rich history of supporting legal aid lawyers and private attorneys in their fight against exploitative financial practices. The organization’s extensive expertise spans a wide range of consumer issues, including predatory lending, debt collection, and credit discrimination. NCLC’s work involves policy analysis, litigation, and training, and it collaborates with numerous partners to promote economic fairness and address systemic inequalities, particularly through its Racial Justice and Equal Economic Opportunity Project.
The Opportunity
The National Consumer Law Center is seeking a dedicated and collaborative leader who is motivated to promote economic justice for individuals and groups that have been left behind in our economy. As a member of NCLC’s management team, the Deputy Director will provide the Executive Director with vital support in leading one of the nation’s most respected advocacy organizations for low-income consumers.
The Deputy Director will work closely with the Executive Director to guide the strategic direction of the Center. To bolster NCLC’s position at the forefront of the fight for economic fairness, the Deputy Director will take steps to elevate the Center’s work and ensure it is mission-aligned, cohesive, and of the highest quality.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the development and implementation of strategic priorities, supervising senior staff, and ensuring that NCLC’s policy positions are consistent across its diverse areas of focus. The role also involves coordinating with other key departments within the organization, such as development, finance, and communications, to ensure that NCLC’s goals are met and its resources are effectively utilized.
This is a unique opportunity for a proven leader to have a substantial impact on a mission-driven organization that has been a stalwart advocate for consumer rights for over 50 years.
