Vice President of Development

America’s Promise Alliance
Remote Washington, DC

America’s Promise Alliance (APA) is a pioneering nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of young people across the United States. Founded in 1997 at the Presidents’ Summit for America’s Future, APA leads efforts to ensure that all youth have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.

As APA enters its next chapter, it is launching a comprehensive new strategy that leverages its quarter-century of experience while responding to the complex, generation-defining challenges exacerbated by recent disruptions. With a sharpened focus on advancing equity, expanding opportunities, and improving outcomes for young people, APA is committed to uniting the nonprofit sector in powerful, authentic communities. By focusing on holistic education, workforce pathways, and community engagement in democracy, the Alliance fosters collaborative partnerships centered on collective action and aimed at creating systemic, lasting change.

The Opportunity

The Vice President of Development (VPD) is a senior leadership position that offers a rare chance to shape APA’s financial future at a pivotal moment in its growth.

The VPD will lead a dynamic team to expand APA’s revenue from $8 million to $15 million annually, playing a key role in realizing the organization’s bold vision for America’s youth. Reporting directly to, and, in partnership with, the CEO – a demonstrated and enthusiastic fundraising leader – the VPD will engage national foundations, corporations, and high-net-worth individuals to support APA’s mission and drive its transformational initiatives.

This is a strategic and hands-on opportunity for a fundraising professional with experience leading high-impact development efforts in nonprofit settings. The VPD will have the autonomy to design and implement fundraising strategies while working closely with APA’s executive team and Board of Directors. With the organization poised for growth, the VPD will help build the infrastructure and donor relationships necessary to ensure long-term sustainability, influence national youth-focused policies, and inspire collaboration across sectors.

The Vice President of Development role represents a unique opportunity to join a leading national organization as it embarks on an ambitious growth trajectory. The successful candidate will have the chance to contribute meaningfully to a powerful mission while leading efforts that directly impact millions of young people across the nation.

The salary range for this position is $165,000 – $200,000, commensurate with experience.
