Gumaer will lead an organization that, since 1887, has helped thousands of young people experience adventure, wonder, and discovery in nature.
Signaling a new era of growth with a focus on deeper programmatic impact, quality, and visibility, Trail Blazers announced that Shanna Gumaer will lead the organization as Executive Director.
Gumaer brings nearly two decades of experience in youth development and child welfare, guided by an abiding belief in the power of camp. Prior to joining Trail Blazers, she served as Chief Operating Officer/Chief Financial Officer at Project Morry, where she spent seven years leading financial and administrative strategy and operations, including fund development, human resources, finance/accounting, IT, and compliance.
During her tenure with Project Morry, Gumaer’s strategic foresight and tactical execution ensured the long-term success of the organization. Among her many accomplishments, Gumaer led a strategic planning process with Board and staff stakeholders; contributed to the expansion of programming and resources for high school students; launched a 25th anniversary campaign to support the creation of an endowment fund; and increased unrestricted revenue by 36%.
Drawing on this relevant experience, Gumaer will work closely with an experienced senior leadership team and a highly engaged Board of Directors as she oversees the administration, programming, and strategic planning for Trail Blazers.
With a portfolio of after-school programs, day camps in Brooklyn and Manhattan, and a flagship overnight camp in northwest New Jersey, Trail Blazers provides young people with a range of opportunities to go outside and grow within.
Shanna Gumaer was appointed in September 2023. The search was led by Lindauer Senior Consultant Diane Felicio, PhD, and Consultant Taylor Beard.
