American Friends of Cancer Research (AFCR) is organized to support large-scale, global research collaborations that catalyze breakthroughs in understanding cancer, leading to new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat it. AFCR is focused on supporting Cancer Grand Challenges, an initiative designed to spur ambitious research that is unbounded by institutional discipline or geography. Founded by Cancer Research UK and the US National Cancer Institute, Cancer Grand Challenges offers $25 million awards to unite the world’s best researchers to make significant strides in cancer research and improve cancer survival worldwide.
