Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) and Ochsner Health have formed a groundbreaking partnership to establish the Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine (XOCOM), the only HBCU medical school in the Gulf South and one of just five nationwide.
This historic initiative reflects both institutions’ shared commitment to advancing healthcare equity, diversity, and excellence. By integrating Xavier’s legacy of producing top pre-medical students and Ochsner Health’s expertise in healthcare innovation, XOCOM will train a new generation of physicians who reflect the diversity of the communities they serve.
Through collaborative programs like the Ochsner Health and Xavier University Institute for Health Equity and Research, this partnership is poised to address critical healthcare challenges, foster economic growth, and promote transformative education. With an ambitious vision and bold mission, XOCOM is leading the charge toward greater inclusivity and impact in the medical profession.

The Opportunity
The inaugural Executive Director of Development (EDoD) will serve as a key leader in launching and sustaining XOCOM’s historic mission.
The Executive Director, in close partnership with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Xavier and the Dean of XOCOM, will lead efforts to raise $350 million over the next five years to support medical school start-up costs, faculty endowments, student scholarships, and new facilities.
The EDoD will play a pivotal role in building a diverse and sustainable pipeline of physicians, addressing healthcare disparities, and advancing the vision of an institution destined to transform medicine.
This is a rare opportunity to define a leadership role that transcends traditional fundraising, fostering collaboration among Xavier, Ochsner Health, and global partners.
